Drones are unmanned aerial vehicles that can be operated either remotely or they can be specially programmed. Initially, drones were used for military purposes. However, due to breakthroughs in technology, they obtained a broader application both in scientific and in civil areas. In Croatia, the Ordinance on unmanned aircraft systems was adopted and it describes all requirements that unmanned aerial vehicles must fulfil. The application of drones is expanding to various areas of construction because of their possibilities related to the increase of quality and protection, as well as decrease of costs. For purposes of this paper, the drone (Phantom 2 Vision+) was used to inspect the swept path on a test site. All elements regarding the geometry of the vehicle required for designing and inspecting the swept path are explained and defined. There are various tests and methods used to determine the swept path of a traffic junction: analytical method, graphic method, model testing, computer programs and test carried out on a test site. The last one was used for purposes of this paper. Tests carried out on a test site are the most accurate ones, but the most expensive ones as well. In terms of organization, they represent the most demanding method. The test site was set up on an apron of the sport-recreational airport Čepin at 90° and 125° angles and personal vehicles and a truck passed through the test site three times for each angle. Results were obtained by using the AutoCad computer program and on the basis of images taken every half of a second. Afterwards, they were compared to templates obtained from German guidelines. Based on the obtained results, it is possible to notice that there are no significant deviations in comparison to the templates and that modern vehicles have made significant progress in terms of mobility. A huge advantage of this type of testing is that it may be used for all types of vehicles, while the templates are designed only for certain types of vehicles.
